Safari Circuits

The Safari “Circuits” of Tanzania are commonly visited National Parks, Conservation Areas, and Game Reserves grouped together based upon a common access point or route.

Northern CircuitOWST
With the most abundant wildlife and variety of landscapes, the Northern Circuit is by far the most popular and accessible Safari Circuit in Tanzania, and arguably one of the best in the world. Arusha town is the access point and can easily be reached through Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or through a domestic flight from Dar es Salaam to Arusha National Airport.

Western CircuitOWST
With their proximity to Africa and Tanzania’s three largest bodies of water, Lake Victoria, Lake Tangynika, and Lake Nyasa, the Western Safari Circuit offers freshwater ecosystems, wildflower plateaus, and –most famously- the world’s best wild Chimpanzee viewing in its cool mountain ranges. As this circuit runs almost the whole length of Tanzania’s Western border in a series of relatively small parks, with only basic infrastructure and rural roads, the parks are best enjoyed within a larger trip to the area. The main parks can be accessed from the city of Mwanza, on the coast of Lake Victoria, which can be reached through a domestic flight from Arusha or Dar es Salaam.

Southern & Coastal CircuitOWST
Stretching from Tanzania’s hilly northern border with Kenya, down the Indian Ocean Coast, and back inland to isolated savanna plains, the Southern and Coastal Circuit covers a vast area and array of geography. Tanzania’s most populous city, Dar es Salaam, is the general access point for the circuit, but the tropical city of Tanga, reached by domestic flight from Dar, can also be used if focusing on the coastal section.
